Bus Strikes in Buenos Aires Due to Salary Demands

The Union of Automotive Trams (UTA) announced that there will be a bus strike in the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires (AMBA). This strike will take place on Tuesday, May 6, and will affect more than 300 short and medium-distance bus lines. The main reason for the strike is the disagreement between the transportation business chambers and the union regarding salary negotiations.

The business chambers offered a 6% raise and non-remunerative payments, which was rejected by the UTA, labeling it "a lack of respect." The union demands that the basic salary of $1,200,000 be increased to $1,700,000 and left open the possibility of taking further measures if no progress is made with the arbitration ruling. It is estimated that more than 9 million people will be affected by this measure in the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires and the Buenos Aires metropolitan area.

The director of the DOTA company, Marcelo Pasciuto, informed that the company will not officially participate in the strike but will allow each driver to decide whether to work that day. The strike will last from midnight on Tuesday until the first minute of Wednesday, and various unions have expressed their support for the action proposed by the UTA.
